Jung Na-Rae

Kim Yong-Soo
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the content and structure of job stress experiences perceived by counselors with disabilities working in a hospital call center. For this purpose, the qualitative study method was utilized and a phenomenological approach was applied. Data collected through interviews was analyzed according to the 6-stage procedure suggested by Colaizzi (1978). Results are as follows. First, from original material collected via in-depth interviews, 5 themes were drawn: ¡®occurrence of job stress¡¯, ¡®symptoms caused by job stress¡¯, ¡®handling job stress¡¯, ¡®discovering the meaning of job stress¡¯, and ¡®change of life, expectation, and resolution.¡¯ Second, in ¡®discovering the meaning of job stress¡¯, participants with disabilities formed a positive image specific to working at the hospital call center. Third, in ¡®change of life, expectation, and resolution¡¯, participants significantly improved levels of job stress especially in comparison to their earlier adjustment to employment with the company. Finally, based on the results, suggestions for a follow-up study are discussed.
